Being Undistracted

by | Jul 8, 2020

Our worries, fears, and emotions can be so loud that they distract us from abiding in Jesus. It takes our ๐’Š๐’๐’•๐’†๐’๐’•๐’Š๐’๐’๐’‚๐’๐’Š๐’•๐’š to stop what weโ€™re doing in order to posture our hearts before Him. Joy, peace, and love come when we fix our eyes on Him. Be undistracted.

I always start my day with Jesus and leave feeling great. But as the day goes on, the stresses and worries of life start to creep in my mind.

Instead of stopping to get my mind right with the Lord, I keep going.

I push the annoyances and anxious thoughts that come my way to the side and move on with my day. However, by the time night comes, I feel exhausted and horrible.

How could it be that I started my day great yet end it feeling horrible?

It was becauseย I got distracted.

I allowed life to distract me from posturing my heart before Jesus throughout the day.

It doesn’t matter if we start or end our day with Jesus, we need to learn to abide in Him throughout the day. Whether it’s taking a moment to praise Him or a break to pray, we need to give our attention to Jesus.

โ€ The psalmist here knew the importance of stopping to praise God.

Have you allowed your worries and fears to distract you from the beauty of Jesus? Are you taking the time throughout the day to acknowledge Jesus?

David prays in Psalm 27:4, “One thing I ask from the Lord, this only do I seek: that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to gaze on the beauty of the Lord and to seek him in his temple.” David’s one request was to behold Jesus.

His peace rests upon us as our hearts focus on Him. We don’t have to be in perfect conditions to experience His peace. We can experience His peace even during troubled times. Jesus says in John 14:27, “‘Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.”

In Acts 16, we see Paul and Silas being severely flogged and sent into the innermost cellโ€”the ๐’…๐’‚๐’“๐’Œ๐’†๐’”๐’• ๐’‘๐’๐’‚๐’„๐’† in prison. Acts 16:22-24 says, “The crowd joined in the attack against Paul and Silas, and the magistrates ordered them to be stripped and beaten with rods. After they had been severely flogged, they were thrown into prison, and the jailer was commanded to guard them carefully. When he received these orders, he put them in the inner cell and fastened their feet in the stocks.”

Though everything was going against them, Acts 16:25-26 says, “About midnight Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns to God, and the other prisoners were listening to them. Suddenly there was such a violent earthquake that the foundations of the prison were shaken. At once all the prison doors flew open, and everyoneโ€™s chains came loose.”

The darkest cell couldnโ€™t stop them from seeing the beauty of Jesus. Their worship eventually led to their breakthrough.

Even in our ๐’…๐’‚๐’“๐’Œ๐’†๐’”๐’• ๐’Ž๐’๐’Ž๐’†๐’๐’•๐’”, the beauty of Jesus ๐ฌ๐ญ๐ข๐ฅ๐ฅ ๐ฌ๐ก๐ข๐ง๐ž๐ฌ. Whatever you may be facing today, will you fix your eyes on Jesus and praise Him?

โ€ Heaviness gets lifted from our hearts as we posture our hearts to rejoice in the Lord. The more we look at Jesus, the less distracted we will be with any anxiety, worry, annoyances, and any other attacks that may be going around us. A garment of praise shields us from carrying any burdens that we were not meant to carry.

Nothing is worth taking your attention away from Jesus. Whatever you are facing today, choose to Only in Christ can you experience joy and peace in the midst of your trials. So remember, be undistracted.
