Faith Alone Isn’t Enough

by | May 4, 2020

Faith alone isn’t enough to see God’s power manifested in our daily walk with Him. Faith is enough to receive salvation from Jesus, but there is more that God wants to show us after receiving salvation. We must𝐚𝐝𝐝𝐭𝐨𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐟𝐚𝐢𝐭𝐡 goodness, knowledge, self-control, perseverance, godliness, and love to see God’s 𝒅𝒊𝒗𝒊𝒏𝒆 𝒏𝒂𝒕𝒖𝒓𝒆 unlocked in our lives.

2 Peter 1:4-8 says, “Through these he has given us his very great and precious promises, so that through them you may participate in the divine nature, having escaped the corruption in the world caused by evil desires. For this very reason, make every effort to add to your faith goodness; and to goodness, knowledge; and to knowledge, self-control; and to self-control, perseverance; and to perseverance, godliness; and to godliness, mutual affection; and to mutual affection, love. For if you possess these qualities in increasing measure, they will keep you from being ineffective and unproductive in your knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.”

God tells us in His word to add on to our faith such virtues so that we can participate in His divine nature and be effective in our knowledge of Jesus Christ. He wants us to experience His full divine nature here on earth. His divine nature includes His healing power, provision, revelations, joy, and love. The only way to experience the fullness of God is to add on to our faith the virtues that Peter states in 2 Peter 1:4-7.

God has been teaching me the importance of adding godliness to our faith, specifically humility.

I had an eyelid infection not too long ago. The last time I had this was 2 years ago and it lasted for 4 weeks. With our Discover Your Purpose Conference coming up and much to do, I did not want to deal with this.

I prayed with faith believing that I would be healed. Two days pass and my eye got worse. I became so angry and came to God questioning why my faith wasn’t healing me. I told God, “I’ve had so many revelations of the power of your blood and I’ve done everything I could with my faith to believe for my healing. Why am I not getting healed?”

I was frustrated.

But then the Holy Spirit led me to 2 Corinthians 12:7-9 where Paul says, “Therefore, in order to keep me from becoming conceited, I was given a thorn in my flesh, a messenger of Satan, to torment me. Three times I pleaded with the Lord to take it away from me. But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.

The word conceited was highlighted to me. It was then that I realized I have not been approaching God with humility. I had been boastful of all that God was doing in my life and the revelations that I was receiving that I believed I could come to God with my demands.

I’m not saying we can’t come to God with our declaration of faith, but we must also come to Him with humility. We must know our place and remember that God is sovereign and higher than we are.

In the book of Job, we see God calling Job the most righteous man of all (Job 1:8), yet even he couldn’t come to God with his demands and self-righteousness.

God allowed Satan to take everything that he had: his servants, cattle, kids, and health, so as to prove to Satan that Job would stay faithful to Him.

Job did stay faithful, however, in Job 31 we see Job making a list of all the good things he had done and demanded God to answer Him. God replies back to Job in Job 38 and reminds him of his place. God replies in Job 38:2-7: “Who is this that obscures my plans with words without knowledge?…Where were you when I laid the earth’s foundation? Who marked off its dimensions?…or who laid its cornerstone—while the morning stars sang together and all the angels shouted for joy?

God was reminding Job that he was in no place to come to God with his pride. God is the creator of the heavens and the earth and everything in it. He is sovereign above us, but because of His love, He chooses to show us mercy.

We see later that Job repents before the Lord and God ends up blessing him double-fold and restoring all that he had lost (Job 42).

Just as God showed mercy to Job, He also longs to show mercy to us.

Humility is what touches the heart of God to bring His favor to our lives. James 4:6 says, “God opposes the proud but shows favor to the humble.

As the Lord was showing me all of this, I repented of my own pride and came humbly before Him asking Him for His mercy. The same day that I repented, my eyelid got 50% better. Three days later, my eyelid was healed.

God didn’t have to heal me, but He did. This was all because I added humility to my faith.

What are you needing in your life? Will you come to God with humility and entrust your situation in His hands?

Ask God to show you what may be hindering you from seeing His divine nature manifested in your life. We serve a loving and merciful God who longs to lavish us with every spiritual and physical blessing. 1 Peter 5:6 says, “Humble yourselves under God’s mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time.

Trust that God is able to turn your situation around and bring the provision or healing that you need. This is the time to come humbly before Him and seek Him with all your heart. So remember, faith alone isn’t enough.
