Truth Over Ignorance

by | Oct 31, 2020

Have you ever felt like running away from the truth because the truth wasn’t what you wanted to hear? While we may not want to hear the truth, we must remember that the truth is good for us. Ignorance may be comforting, but it doesn’t save you. Truth is what saves you. Choose truth over ignorance.

It’s easy for us to say that we want to be people who live by truth, but will we still uphold the truth even when it’s inconvenient to what we want? Will we still choose to uphold the truth even when it may mean exposing things that we don’t want to expose?

While the truth won’t always be something we want to hear, we have to remember that the truth is good for us and it is what will set us free to live life to the fullest.

Jesus says in John 14:6, “I am the way and the truth and the life…” Jesus is the truth. He is the Word made in flesh. This means the Word of God is also our standard of truth. “For the word of the Lord is right and true” (Psalm 33:4).

There can only be one truth. We can either choose to believe in the truth or a lie. The enemy is the father of lies and his goal is to kill, steal, and destroy us, while Jesus’s will is for us to live life to the fullest (John 10:10).

When we are tempted to give in to anything that goes against God’s Word, we must remember that sin always leads to death. Romans 6:23 says, “For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” While we may not die right away in our physical bodies from sin, we are setting ourselves up for a destiny of eternal death in hell away from Jesus. Sin also prevents us from seeing God’s goodness in our present life.

That’s the enemy’s goal for us—to live life without experiencing the goodness of God. The enemy wants us to live in ignorance and not realize how deprived we are of the truth. The enemy will always try to downplay the consequences of our sins.

1 Peter 1:14-15 says, “As obedient children, do not conform to the evil desires you had when you lived in ignorance. But just as he who called you is holy, so be holy in all you do.” Let us not live in ignorance but choose to live in truth.

When we continuously fail to reject evil and ignore the convictions of the Holy Spirit, we will lose our sensitivity to the truth and the voice of God. What we feed grows and what we starve dies. When we choose to feed into lies, we will grow in ignorance. When we choose to reject all lies, we will grow in truth.

This is the time for us to wake up and expose any darkness so that we may walk in His light.

God is taking many of us into a new season of our promise land. The things of darkness can’t go with us in this new season. It’s time for us to confess what needs to be confessed and to walk in truth. Let us not merely listen to the Word and not do it. James 1:22 says, “Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says.” We will be blessed when we choose to obey and abide by God’s truth. So remember, choose truth over ignorance.
