Leading Through The Unknown

by | Sep 24, 2019

Has God called you to start something new? As leaders, we are given a vision but not always the roadmap, so how do we lead through the unknowns? The key is to walk with Jesus in boldness, strategy, and faith.

We may be called to lead, but Jesus is always the main leader. We are to look to Him for wisdom and strategy. Joshua and Nehemiah were men of God who were led by the Holy Spirit. They had discernment in choosing leaders and helping others to their promise land.

They both knew that success came from God. In the face of opposition and being ridiculed, Nehemiah says, “The God of heaven will give us success.” (Nehemiah 2:20). Joshua reminds everyone, “But be very careful to keep the commandment and the law that Moses the servant of the Lord gave you: to love the Lord your God, to walk in obedience to him, to keep his commands, to hold fast to him and to serve him with all your heart and with all your soul.” (Joshua 22:5)

Success for any new venture starts with walking faithfully with Jesus in boldness and strategy.

As leaders, we are also called to steward and mobilize those under us to commit to the task assigned from God.

We see in Joshua 7 that Achan was a man who was a part of the tribe of the Israelites. He disobeyed God by keeping devoted items of past enemies they were conquered. God had clearly told the Israelites to destroy everything. Because of Achan’s sin, Israel did not defeat the region of Ai. God told Joshua that if they were to destroy the devoted items, He would then give them success.

Joshua obeyed God and we see Him giving Joshua success once again.

God still held Joshua accountable as a leader to watch over everyone to make sure they all obeyed Him.

Just like Joshua, we as leaders are also responsible for what those under us do.

Nehemiah was a leader who knew how to mobilize people with the burden that God had put in his heart. The walls of Jerusalem had to be rebuilt and he mobilized people to help him. In Nehemiah 2:17 he says to the people, “You see the trouble we are in: Jerusalem lies in ruins, and its gates have been burned with fire. Come, let us rebuild the wall of Jerusalem, and we will no longer be in disgrace.

The keyword that Nehemiah says in this verse is “the trouble we are in”. He didn’t just put the burden on himself, but also on the rest of the people.

The burden we carry as leaders is not only our burden, but it is also to those who are called to help the task that God has assigned to us to lead.

The final thing we need as leaders is faith. Abraham was able to obtain the promises of God in his life because he didn’t waver in his faith (Romans 4:19).

Faith activates the power of God into our lives. In Luke 8 we see Jesus encounter a woman who had been bleeding for 12 years. Jesus asked the disciples in Luke 8:46, “Someone touched me; I know that power has gone out from me.”

The bleeding women had the faith to believe that she would be healed if she touched Jesus. Her faith pulled the power of Jesus into her own life and brought her healing.

This same principle applies to our own lives. Our faith has the power to pull the power of Jesus into our own lives.

This is the season where God is calling many to lead into uncharted territories; to go to places we have never been. Let us walk with faith and boldness, being faithful to God wherever we go. Listen more on this topic of “Leading Through The Unknown” on our Podcast:
