It’s God’s job to take us where we need to be, but it’s our job to be convinced of our calling. When we are convinced that we have an assignment from God, we will persevere and obey no matter the opposition we face.
There are many people in scripture who were called by God and persevered because they knew they carried an assignment from God. Esther is a great example of one who realized she was positioned for a purpose. Esther received favor from King Xerxes and was then crowned as queen. We find later that Haman (who was one of the royal nobles) made a decree to have all the Jews killed.
God sent Mordecai to remind Esther that God positioned her for a purpose. Mordecai tells her, “For if you remain silent at this time, relief and deliverance for the Jews will arise from another place, but you and your father’s family will perish. And who knows but that you have come to your royal position for such a time as this?” (Esther 4:14).
God raised Esther up to be seated in her position because He knew that the Jews would need saving. Esther realized her purpose and rose to the occasion.
Opposition is bound to happen. There will be people who will go up to you and say you’re not good enough or question why you do what you do. It’s during these moments that we must remember who has called us and for what purpose. We can do all things through Christ who strengthens us (Philippians 4:13).
Nehemiah was a leader who ran with a burden from God to rebuild the walls of Jerusalem. He faced threats from others, but in the midst of the opposition, He prayed for strength from God. He proclaimed over his enemies, “The God of heaven will give us success. We his servants will start rebuilding...” (Nehemiah 2:20).
Nehemiah continued re-building the walls in the midst of opposition because he knew His assignment came from God. He was convinced of His calling and knew that God would be with him to fulfill it. He ran with a burden that God had given him until he saw it to completion (Nehemiah 2:12).
We must run with a burden, knowing that our assignment comes from God.
Where has God positioned you and for what purpose? Will you continue to persevere despite the opposition that you face?
Jesus is the perfect example of one who knew His calling and fulfilled it. He was hungry to do the will of the Father. Though the disciples and Pharisees questioned Him, Jesus knew that He was destined to redeem us through his death on the cross and resurrection from the grave.
Hebrews 12:1-3 reminds us, “…let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. Consider him who endured such opposition from sinners, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart.“
Let us be convinced of who God has called us to be. Know that He is faithful to fulfill His call over our lives if we surrender ourselves to Him. So remember, are you convinced of your calling?
