Seek Wisdom

by | Feb 11, 2023

Many despise wisdom, but we should seek wisdom because God’s wisdom always leads to an abundant life.

I grew up in the church but never desired to seek God’s wisdom and apply it in my life. I lived making my own decisions and lived the way I wanted to live. I found myself stuck in a life filled with shame and secrecy as I made my own decisions that I thought were right but turned out to harm me.

It wasn’t until I gave my life to Jesus and took His Word (the Bible) as my source of wisdom that I then found joy, peace, love, and fulfillment

We live in a time where many despise wisdom and instruction, however, we are to seek wisdom because wisdom will only lead us to God’s best

True wisdom comes from Jesus because He alone is God almighty. Proverbs 9:10 says, “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom.” Wisdom starts with us acknowledging that God is sovereign over all and is to be Lord over our life. As we see God rightly and acknowledge that His Word is to be obeyed, we will obtain wisdom and understanding.

Jesus has a lot He wants to say to us but He will only speak as much as we let Him. Will we be willing to seek Jesus and lay anything aside that He may ask us to? To truly seek Jesus is to want Him and nothing else it is seeing that Jesus is all we need.

Whether it’s a relationship we need to let go of, or a career switch, we need to trust that God knows best.

“Blessed are those who find wisdom, those who gain understanding, for she is more profitable than silver and yields better returns than gold” (Proverbs 3:13-14).

When we spend time with Jesus yet don’t take time to hear Him, it’s like going to meet someone but never seeking to hear that person out. I have found myself during busy times rushing my alone times with Jesus where I do more talking and reading the Word but not taking time to quiet myself to listen to what Jesus wants to say.

Jesus is wisdom so His words will lead us to experience the best of life. There’s no better advice we can get apart from Jesus.

Let us not see God’s commands as burdensome but as wonderful. His ways are truth and lifeProverbs 1:33 says, “But whoever listens to me will dwell safely, And will be secure, without fear of evil.”

There is no better version of life that we can experience outside of loving Jesus and living in His ways. I’ve never regretted obeying God. The only regrets I have in my life are the times I did not obey God.

The greatest threat to us receiving wisdom is doubt. We can ask God for wisdom, but if we doubt what He says, we won’t receive the wisdom He gives and in return we can’t expect anything from God.

James 1:6-7 says, “But when you ask, you must believe and not doubt, because the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind. That person should not expect to receive anything from the Lord.”

The enemy will always sow doubt and fear in what God tells us, but that is when we must put on faith and choose to believe what God says rather than our fears and feelings.

God knows best, and His ways always lead us to an abundant life (John 10:10).

God promises to generously give wisdom without finding fault (James 1:5). So the question is, are you asking God for wisdom?

The Bible contains the very will and Word of God so in it we can gain wisdom along with real-time advice from the Holy Spirit.

Wisdom is not determined by what we feel is wise. Wisdom is Jesus and all that He says, whether we like it or not. We are free to make our own decisions, but we are promised LIFE and FAVOR from God when we choose to obey His ways.

Proverbs 8:34-35 says, “Blessed are those who listen to me, watching daily at my doors, waiting at my doorway. Those who find me find life and receive favor from the Lord.”

Let’s stop relying on what we feel is right and instead trust Jesus who is almighty and all-wise. His ways are perfect and always for our best and His glory.

How can you apply God’s word to your life today? Will you take time to seek Jesus and obey what He says?

Nothing in this world can promise us security except Jesus. We are promised security here on earth and for eternity in Jesus.

Jesus says in John 14:6, “I am the way and the truth and the life.” ONLY Jesus is the way, truth, and life. There may be other things in this world that offer wisdom, but true wisdom and life is found only in Jesus and His Word (the Bible).

He promises in Jeremiah 29:13, “You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.” When we take time to seek Jesus with all our hearts and expect Him to show up, we will see Him and receive the peace, love, and direction we need.

So remember, seek wisdom from God because He knows best.

Prayer: Jesus, may we always remember that you are sovereign and know best. When doubt and fear arise, we will seek your wisdom because we know that You only want what is best for us.
