Love God

by | Jun 7, 2024

Do we love God with our heart, soul, and mind in all we do? Loving Jesus must be the vision of our lives. Love God.

I used to think I could love Jesus but disregard His feelings and commands in the Bible, but I later found that loving Jesus looks like something and that is obeying God’s Word.

Jesus makes it clear in the Bible that if we truly love Him, we will obey His commands. Jesus says in John 14:15, “If you love me, obey my commands.”

I wanted to love Jesus as I saw how much He loved me and saved me though I didn’t deserve His love and forgiveness. May we also remember God’s great love for us so that we may love Him back as He deserves.

The first thing we must ask ourselves before doing anything is: Am I loving Jesus with all my heart, soul, and mind in what I am about to do? Jesus’s first and greatest commandment to us is to love God with all our heart, soul, and mind (Matthew 22:37-38).

This is not only the greatest commandment, but also the first commandment for us to do.

Let’s be quick to allow the Holy Spirit to examine our hearts and motives so that we may walk in a blameless way that pleases God. If there is anything in our hearts that is not pure, we can confess it to Jesus and invite Him to create in us a pure heart.

1 John 1:9 says, “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.”

Our willingness to obey God and submit our lives to Him is the evidence that we love God.

We can say and do the right thing, but if it’s not said or done in love, it produces nothing. I Corinthians‬ ‭13‬:‭1‬-‭3‬ ‭says, “Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I have become sounding brass or a clanging cymbal. And though I have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries and all knowledge, and though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, but have not love, I am nothing. And though I bestow all my goods to feed the poor, and though I give my body to be burned, but have not love, it profits me nothing.“

God is love, so we must speak and do things in truth and love that others may see God and for our actions to produce fruit that will last for eternity.

Before you say, post, or do anything, ask yourself: Am I doing this with a heart of love?

Jesus says in John 13:35, “By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.” This doesn’t mean we can’t confront or correct people, but we must do it all in love.

The ability to love Jesus with all our heart, soul, and mind is a sign we are completely free by the love of Jesus. When we are bound by sin such as pain, fear, or lust, we do not have the ability to love Jesus, but His love perfects us so that we can love Him back.

1 John 4:18-19 says, “But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love. We love because he first loved us.”

God’s love has the ability to perfect us. We can love God because He first loved us by giving Jesus, His only begotten Son to die for us that we may have eternal life if we believe in Jesus.

Let us always look to the cross and remember how greatly loved we are by God. When we lose sight of Jesus and His holiness, we will go astray and not follow His commands. Let us make our vision to love Jesus with all our heart, soul, and mind.

A life outside of God’s Word is a life that will perish. Proverbs 29:18 says, “Where there is no vision, the people perish: but he that keepeth the law, happy is he.” Only in Jesus can we find an abundant life and eternal life. May we continue to prioritize living out the greatest commandment.

Jesus says in John 15:10, “If you keep My commandments, you will abide in My love, just as I have kept My Father’s commandments and abide in His love.” Let us abide in God’s love by obeying His commands.

There’s no better place than abiding in God’s love. It is in Jesus that we will find a blessed life here on earth and for eternity. So remember, love God.

Prayer: Jesus, help me to keep myself in your love by abiding in your ways and remembering your love and mercy for me. May I never take your love for granted and obey You at all times and keeping your greatest commandment.
