Stay Steadfast While Waiting on God

by | Feb 27, 2025

It can be easy to lose hope when we don’t see change or breakthrough in our circumstances. Learn how to stay steadfast while waiting on God.

While waiting for our breakthrough, we must stay joyful in hope, patient in affliction, and faithful in prayer (Romans 12:12). These three things will help us stay steadfast in Jesus as we wait for His promises to come to pass.

When we lose hope and patience and stop praying, we end up being discouraged and are more prone to take things into our own hands instead of waiting on God’s perfect timing and will.

My husband and I have been waiting for certain promises from God to come to pass but we have found our circumstances only challenging us. There was a time when I stopped praying for that certain breakthrough we have been believing God for and I found myself losing hope and almost taking things into my own hands.

God reminded me that I had lost faith because I stopped praying

We must not stop praying for God’s promises to come to pass so that we keep our hearts postured to have faith in God. Prayer reminds us that God desires to bring to pass the promises He has spoken over our lives.

We lose faith when we look at our circumstances instead of Jesus.

There may be no change happening in our circumstances, but when we look to Jesus, we are reminded that He is faithful and able to do the impossible.

Jesus says in Matthew 19:26, “With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.”

Don’t forget the God you serve who is the King of kings and Lord of lords, who alone is immortal and who lives in unapproachable light (1 Tim. 6:15-16). No matter what you are facing, will you choose to look to Jesus and trust that He is able to bring change and the breakthrough that you have been waiting for?

Let us believe with faith and remember that by faith even Sarah, who was past childbearing age, was enabled to bear children because she considered Him faithful who had made the promise (Hebrews 11:11).

Will you trust God and put your confidence in His faithfulness?

Trials and testing will come, but as we abide in Jesus and trust Him, we will never find ourselves afraid and frail but confident and bearing fruit.

Be still and rooted in God’s love which is found in Jesus who proved His love for us by dying for us while we were yet sinners. God who did not spare his own Son, but gave him up for us all—how will he not also, along with him, graciously give us all things? (Romans 8:32).

We need to be confident of God’s love for us and that confidence comes as we meditate on His word and remember the cross where Jesus died for us.

May we be like the tree described in Jeremiah 17:7-8: “But blessed is the one who trusts in the Lord, whose confidence is in him. They will be like a tree planted by the water that sends out its roots by the stream. It does not fear when heat comes; its leaves are always green. It has no worries in a year of drought and never fails to bear fruit.”

Fear will try to make us focus on our problems instead of focusing on Jesus. Trust Jesus and keep your gaze on Him

Peace comes as we look at Jesus, not our circumstances.

Isaiah 26:3 says, “You will keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on You Because he trusts in You.” Keep your eyes on Jesus and remember that He is in control and faithful. He promises to be with us on earth and for eternity. 1 Thessalonians 5:10 says, “Christ died for us so that, whether we are dead or alive when he returns, we can live with him forever.”

Jesus promises to always be with those who have accepted Him as their Lord and Savior. This means no matter what dark valley we go through, we can keep our eyes on Jesus and trust Him to help us because He is with us

Choose to dwell on God’s word and ponder His ways. Position yourself to delight in His word and remember His faithfulness, especially during hard times. We don’t have to lose heart because God is for us. Psalm 27:13 says, “I would have lost heart unless I had believed That I would see the goodness of the Lord In the land of the living.”

God is good and He loves you. We can be assured of God’s love as we remember Jesus, who was His only begotten Son that He sent to die for us (Romans 5:8). So remember, stay steadfast while waiting on God.

Prayer: Jesus, thank You for being faithful. No matter what challenge we face in life, may we always remember that we can look to You for a breakthrough. Just like You made a way for Sarah and others in the Bible, You will make a way for us.
