How do we defeat the darkness within our hearts and around the world? The answer is Jesus. He is the light that overcomes darkness.
We have issues that we struggle with because we were all born into sin and are surrounded by a dark world. Some of the issues you may be struggling with are anxiety, pornography, lust, jealousy, pride, anger, or other heart wounds. These things do not come from God, but are from the enemy.
The only way to overcome darkness is through bringing light in.
Imagine yourself in a dark room. The moment you turn on the light switch, the darkness flees. Jesus is the very light that overcomes all darkness. He is the light of all mankind—our hope for transformation.
John 1:4-5 says, “In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.“
When we surrender and allow Jesus to reign in our hearts, His light overcomes all darkness. Walking into freedom and purity isn’t by trying harder, but by welcoming Jesus in and staying close to Him. It is not by our strength, but by His strength that we can walk according to His ways. It will require us to deny our desires and wills to pick up His.
Jesus says, “Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross daily and follow me” (Luke 9:23). We must deny ourselves in order for His light to take over.
You don’t have to wait to walk into your freedom. Freedom comes when you allow Jesus to reign over your heart. Giving your life to Jesus isn’t a one-time thing that you do—it’s an everyday decision to deny yourself and choose Him. Whom the Son sets free is free indeed (John 8:36).
You never have to fear being bound by what once bounded you. Jesus is your light and fortress who protects you from all darkness. Psalm 27:1 “The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? The Lord is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?” Jesus is the very light inside of you that diminishes all darkness.
Run to Jesus and expect Him to transform you by renewing your mind with His truth. Jesus is the Word made in flesh. The Bible that you have is Jesus Himself. The Word contains the light you need to free you from all the lies of the enemy. Take time to invite the Holy Spirit to inspect your heart and show you the way to everlasting life (Psalm 139:23-24).
As we practice beholding Jesus, no attack of the enemy can overtake us. Psalm 27:4 says, “One thing I have desired of the Lord, That will I seek: That I may dwell in the house of the Lord All the days of my life, to behold the beauty of the Lord.”
Will you choose to deny yourself and invite Jesus in?
This is the time where Jesus wants to show you His beauty. You may have been in a place where everything you thought would bring you joy didn’t. Don’t lose hope. Run to the one who is your hope—Jesus Christ. He wants to heal all the pains that you’ve held on to for so long. He longs to overcome every darkness within your heart with 𝑯𝒊𝒔 𝒍𝒊𝒈𝒉𝒕. So remember, Jesus is the light that overcomes darkness.
