You Have A Rescuer

by | Jul 15, 2021

We can easily look to ourselves or others as our rescuer, but our ultimate help comes from Jesus. You have a rescuer.

We were not made to carry the burdens of this world — that’s Jesus’s job. Our job is to rely on Him and obey what He tells us to do. Jesus invites us to cast our anxieties on Him because He cares for us (1 Peter 5:7). Life can give us thousands of “what-ifs”, but our job is to trust our future in God’s hands despite what we see. We are called to move forward in faith and trust that our future is secure in Him.

There have been many times when I felt overwhelmed because I felt like I was the one responsible for holding things together like my marriage, business, and ministry, but God reminded me that He is the One who holds all things together.

When we are feeling burdened and overwhelmed, that is a sign that we are not giving our worries to Jesus. Jesus promises rest for us, but we must be willing to entrust our worries and fears in His hands. We will receive rest when we hand things that we can’t control to Jesus. Rest is our portion in Christ. As His beloved children, we are called to live with joy and rest.

If we rely on ourselves, we will end up feeling empty and thirsty. When you’re feeling weak or dry, you can go to Jesus to refresh you. He will never fail you nor leave you as you were. You can come to Him with the expectancy that He will strengthen your weary heart.

Isaiah 58:11 reminds us, “The LORD will guide you always; he will satisfy your needs in a sun-scorched land and will strengthen your frame. You will be like a well-watered garden, like a spring whose waters never fail.

For a spring to thrive, an aquifer under the ground needs to be filled to the point that the water overflows onto the land surface. Jesus is our aquifer; He is our source of living water.

We are a spring whose waters never fail because He never fails. Will you run to Jesus and allow Him to refresh you?

Jesus is the only one truly holding our lives together — He is the Savior of the world (John 4:42). You can’t rescue yourself; and if you try, you’ll fail. So why not run to Him in the moment of weakness? We have constant access to Jesus.

We have been given a helper who will be with us at all times, and that is the Holy Spirit. The word “helper” here means “called to one’s side”. The Holy Spirit is called to…

Comfort us when we need comforting
Give us insight when we are lost
Empower us for a task that is too great for us to handle
Connect us to God and His word
Remind us things that we need to know

Open up your ears to the Holy Spirit in everything you do. You have a loving Father in heaven who cares for you.

Will you entrust to Jesus the things you can’t control in life and the scary unknowns?

You don’t have to live in fear of the things you can’t change. Jesus wants to help you overcome. So remember, you have a rescuer.

Prayer: Jesus, help me to look to you whenever I am in need. You are my true help and rescuer.
