The Importance Of Spending Time With Jesus

by | Jan 18, 2022

Spending time with Jesus is necessary to be rooted and one with Jesus. We also receive God’s grace as we get in His Word and spend time with Him. Spending time with Jesus is important.

Recently, I’ve recognized that there has been a lack of grace over my life. I have been feeling weary and overwhelmed with all of the things God has given me to do. When I was talking to the Lord about my weariness, I felt Him say, “It’s because you haven’t been spending time with me.” My lack of grace in the things that I do corresponds with my lack of time spent with Jesus.

We need Jesus in everything we do. Whether it’s completing a work project effectively, being a loving parent, or staying pure; without Jesus, we cannot bear fruit. The best way to steward a pure heart can only be by spending time with Jesus. Jesus makes it clear in John 15:5 that apart from Him we can do nothing.

If we want to bear the fruit of the Spirit which is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control (Galatians 5:22-23), we need to abide in Jesus. We may know the importance of being loving, patient, and having self-control, but knowledge itself without Jesus will produce nothing in us.

Spending time with Jesus and yielding to the voice of the Holy Spirit allows us to abide in Jesus. It’s in abiding with Jesus that we will see true transformation in our lives to be like Jesus in all that we do.

Abiding in Jesus will require us to cast down all anxious, selfish, lustful, and bitter thoughts. If we want to remain in Jesus, we must let go of everything that isn’t Jesus.

Thoughts that don’t belong to Jesus don’t belong in us.

The Word of God is our weapon to break down strongholds. Let us take time every day to spend time with Jesus and allow Him to penetrate our hearts with the Word of God. Spending time with Jesus is necessary to become one with Jesus and for doing the work He has called us to do. It’s not enough to hear the Word of God from a preacher. We must spend time with Jesus to allow Him to penetrate His heart into our very being.

The key to allowing God’s Word to go deep in our hearts is by spending time with Him and listening to the revelation He speaks to us. It’s when we spend time with Jesus that we know what hurts His heart and what truth we need in order to be transformed into His image. Jesus makes it clear in Luke 10:42 that only one thing is needed, and that is sitting at the feet of Jesus and listening to Him.

His presence allows our presence to breathe Him. If we want to be more like Jesus, we need to spend more time with Jesus.

Jesus calls us His garden in Song of Songs 5:1. Like any garden, it takes time to tend it for the garden to bear fruit.

If we want to blossom and bear fruit, we must spend time with Jesus and allow Him to tend the garden of our hearts. As we spend time with Jesus, we allow His truth to purify our hearts. A beautiful and tender heart is created in us as we saturate ourselves with Jesus.

Are you prioritizing time with Jesus every day? Outside of Jesus, we cannot bear fruit. So remember the importance of spending time with Jesus.

Prayer: Jesus, thank you for being all that I need. Help me to prioritize spending time with you.
