Satisfaction does not come by having perfect circumstances but as we set our affections on things above where Jesus is. Set your affections on things above.
I found myself greatly disappointed when we didn’t get the home we wanted. I lost joy and felt everything was going to go wrong for us. As I spent time with Jesus, He reminded me to set my mind on things above where He is seated at. As I turned my attention to Jesus and the eternity that is to come with Him, my joy returned.
It just took a shift from my circumstances to Jesus that I then found joy.
Maybe you didn’t lose a home, but is there something recently that you lost that you really wanted? A certain position? A raise? A relationship? A loved one Whatever loss you may be facing, know that you can still have joy because you have Jesus who is ALL that you need.
Psalm 23:1 reminds us, “The Lord is my Shepherd, I lack nothing.” Colossians 3:2 also says, “Set your affections on things above, not on earthly things.” As we choose to set our affections on Jesus and eternity, we will find joy.
Will you fix your eyes on Jesus and what is to come instead of circumstances?
Jesus is coming back to rule and reign with us. There will be a new heaven and earth where no evil will enter (Revelation 21:1,27).
It can be easy to be consumed with our lives now and forget the age to come when Jesus will rule and reign in the new heaven and earth. We must set our affections on things above and remember our King Jesus who is alive and seated at the right hand of God. Our eternity matters more than our lives on this earth because eternity will be forever.
It’s time we set our affections toward things that will matter for eternity. May our hearts cry out every day, “Come Lord Jesus.” “The Spirit and the bride say, ‘Come!’” (Revelation 22:17).
Are we living every day in a way that is aware of Jesus’ coming? Are we making ourselves ready to be a faithful bride when He comes? Or have we fixed our eyes on the desires of the flesh that have no eternal worth?
We have a glorious inheritance that is to come for those in Christ Jesus. Imagine having 1 billion dollars in your bank account that you get to use 5 years from now. I’m sure you would be excited and live with great joy for what is to come.
Our inheritance in Christ is far greater than all the money in the world. In Christ, we have eternal life with Him.
There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things will pass away (Revelation 21:4). Eternity will last forever. May we live eternal-minded, choosing to live for Jesus and holding fast to our faith in Him, not wasting our Salvation by sinning (Colossians 1:22-23).
Paul says in Ephesians 1:18-19, “I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you, the riches of his glorious inheritance in his holy people and his incomparably great power for us who believe.”
Let us fix our eyes on what is unseen for what is seen is temporal but what is unseen is eternal (2 Cor. 4:18).
Ask God to make eternity real for you. Read the book of Revelation weekly too so that your heart may be set towards your glorious inheritance with Jesus. Our lives on this earth are temporal, but eternity will be forever. So remember, set your affection on things above.
Prayer: Jesus, thank You for being all that we need. When things do not go as planned, may we shift our focus on the things above, because we know that You have something better in store for us.
