God Is Calling His Prodigals Back

by | Nov 6, 2019

This is the season where God is calling his prodigals back. A prodigal is someone who once was living the Christian faith but now has left.

I was once a prodigal. There was a time when I built my life on lies. All the lies I had made up dug me deeper into a pit where I couldn’t escape.

I didn’t know how to get out and if I would ever have peace and joy in my life again.

In that moment of desperation, I was reminded of the verse in John 8:32 which says, “then you will know the truth and the truth will set you free.” I needed to be set free from all the shame, guilt, and lies that I had held on to. That day I decided to re-dedicate my life to Jesus and make Him Lord over my life.

As I made my life right with Jesus, I saw Him lift me up from my slimy pit and place me on a firm place to stand.

He took away my shame and reminded me that I was His child.
He replaced my guilt with His love and mercy.
I am where I am today because of His grace.

If you are in a messy place in your life, know that you can turn to Jesus. He has the power to pull you out of your mess and transform your life.

Psalm 40:2 says, “He lifted me out of the slimy pit, out of the mud and mire; he set my feet on a rock and gave me a firm place to stand.” Jesus gives us a firm foundation to build our lives upon. He will never stop pursuing us to come back to Him.

No matter how far we’ve run from God, He still sees us as His beloved child.

In Luke 15 we read of the prodigal son who ran off and destroyed all of his father’s inheritance. The son tells the father, “Father, I have sinned against heaven and against you. I am no longer worthy to be called your son.”(Luke 15:21)

However, the father still acknowledged the prodigal son as his son even though he had run off and did wrong. The father says, “For this son of mine was dead and is alive again; he was lost and is found.” (Luke 15:24)

Just as the father embraced the son, so does God embrace us as His children. We belong to God. No matter how far we’ve gone, God will never stop waiting for us to come back home. His eyes 𝒏𝒆𝒗𝒆𝒓 𝒔𝒕𝒐𝒑 𝒘𝒂𝒕𝒄𝒉𝒊𝒏𝒈, his heart 𝒏𝒆𝒗𝒆𝒓 𝒔𝒕𝒐𝒑𝒔 𝒑𝒖𝒓𝒔𝒖𝒊𝒏𝒈. This is the season where God is calling his 𝒑𝒓𝒐𝒅𝒊𝒈𝒂𝒍𝒔 𝒃𝒂𝒄𝒌.
