It can be easy to give up when things aren’t going the way we expected. However, we can still flourish in our hard seasons when God is our source of strength.
We were never created to rely on our circumstances because life will never be perfect. There will be hardships and times of testing in our lives. The good news is that no matter what we go through, we can find strength through every season because God is with us every step of the way.
Psalm 84:5-7 says, “Blessed are those whose strength is in you, whose hearts are set on pilgrimage. As they pass through the Valley of Baka, they make it a place of springs; the autumn rains also cover it with pools. They go from strength to strength, till each appears before God in Zion.“
Baca is a plant that can survive in dry places without water. The Valley of Baca is also called the Valley of Weeping. This is the place where we have yet to see God’s promises come to pass. Psalm 84 is reminding us that when we strengthen ourselves in God, even our darkest valleys can be a place of springs where we get refreshed.
God promises us that He will always be with us and lead us to still waters, but that means even in our troubled moments. Psalm 23:2-4 says, “…he leads me beside quiet waters, he refreshes my soul. He guides me along the right paths for his name’s sake. Even though I walk through the darkest valley I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.“
The key sentence in Psalm 23 is “even though I walk through the darkest valley.”
We all will have to walk through dark valleys throughout our lives, but we can rest knowing that God is with us and for us. During such times, we must trust that God’s agenda for us is always good. We can give our worries to God and draw strength from Him, knowing that He will sustain us through everything. Psalm 55:22 says, “cast your cares on the Lord and he will sustain you; he will never let the righteous be shaken.”
Instead of questioning God, remind yourself that He is able to take everything that was meant for your harm for your good. Peace arises when we remind ourselves that He is good.
God allows us to go through hardships so that we can gain perseverance that will complete our faith in Him. James 1:2-4 says, “Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything.“
Don’t lose hope in your struggles. Even though you may not understand what God is doing, trust that He is always working for your good. All He is asking you to do is to trust Him and abide in Him. As you focus on His goodness, you will find His peace and joy overwhelming your heart no matter what troubles come your way. Isaiah 58:11 says, “The Lord will guide you always; he will satisfy your needs in a sun-scorched land and will strengthen your frame. You will be like a well-watered garden, like a spring whose waters never fail.”
Will you focus on God’s goodness and rely on His strength? Those who hope in the Lord will never grow weary (Isaiah 40:31).
Build your life upon God’s truth and not your circumstances. Choose to hold on to who God is and let go of your fears and doubts. You will see His goodness and mercy follow you all the days of your life as you follow Him through every season. So remember, God is the source of your strength.
